News and Notes:
Glue Sticks and Markers
MANY of the first graders are out of glue sticks or their markers have run out. We still have 2 more quarters to go so please ask your first grader how their glue sticks supply is and if their markers still work. :-)
Reading Calendar
There was a new January reading calendar in your child's Friday folder a couple weeks ago. Try to keep up reading with your child over Christmas break. :-)
School Resumes
We resume school on Thursday, January 3rd. Enjoy your Christmas break until then!
STEAM Lab
Your child will need to bring in a small stuffed animal on the Friday we return from break. We will be heading to the STEAM lab and working on something for it. I'll remind you again when the date is closer!

Our Advent Service
We read a Christmas poem and illustrated what we visualized when we heard it. Then we compared our visualizations with our friends. Some of us pictured the same things, some of us didn't!
Practicing saying word sounds in isolation.
Adding -s or -es to nouns!
We practiced more visualization. We came up with a Christmas noun and thought up as many words to describe it as we could...
Later, we put those words into sentences or phrases to make a poem!
Counting how many sounds we hear in words.
Wrapping our presents for our parents!
And making a card!
After we finished writing our poems, we illustrated what we visualized when we
read it to ourselves.
STEAM: Making a Christmas Tree
with any kind of building blocks.
At the beginning of Advent, we found a gift from God. We kept it on our altar until the last day before Christmas Break.
As you can see, when the gift was opened, it was a cross and it said the gift was "God's Son." We are thankful for the greatest present of all.
We learned about Los Posadas! The 7-8th grade Spanish classes took us on a Los Posadas journey!
We watched a Christmas movie and ate lunch in the classroom on Thursday.
On Thursday, we had our Poetry Cafe. We read our poems and drank hot chocolate while we listened to our friends poems.
Thank you so much for the beautiful quilt from our class! I am looking forward to using it during this cold weather!
Merry CHRISTmas! See you next year!
