News and Notes:

Wonder Discovery Table
A letter was sent home (with two spelling errors - I apologize, I was in a hurry) inviting your child to bring in an item from nature.  Please help your child choose something that they found in nature.  We look forward to seeing what the students bring in to extend our wondering and learning!  Please remind your first grader to bring in the item by Monday, October 1st.


October Scholastic Book Order
Your child has a scholastic book order packet in the Friday folder.  This is a great way to build up your home library as well as earn books for our classroom. Orders are due October 5th. Trunk or Treat
Reminder that the late fee goes into effect on Monday, October 1 for Trunk or Treat. Please bring candy to the school office if you aren't going to have a car in the parking lot that night.


Bobcat Shuffle
Only a few days left to register for the Bobcat Shuffle and get the shirt! The last day to sign up and receive your shirt is Monday, October 1st. 
The classroom with the most students registered by 10/1 will win a Donut Party with their class! 
You DONuT want to miss out!


Reading Calendar
Your child may turn in the reading calendar for the month of September.  The students  have a new reading calendar for the month of October in the Friday folder.


Reading Log
The boys and girls have said they have been reading the book in the front sleeve of the bobcat folder. Please try to read the book about 3-4 times a week.  It should be fairly easy to read.  They should practice reading it the way they talk: with expression, and heeding punctuation.  By the end of the week it should be read fluently.  


Botanical Gardens Field Trip
We will go on our field trip on Wednesday, October 17th from 8:45-2:30pm.  Look for the permission form next week.  Amy O'Neil, Robert Cornejo, Leanne Rohr, Ryan Johnson and Dan Grzina are signed up to go.  Please let me know if you are unable to attend.


We Sing
We sing in church on October 7th at the 10:30 service.  Please meet in the upper music room in the balcony of the church at 10:20 to warm up our voices.

We talked about identifying feelings in our Second Step curriculum.  We looked in mirrors and drew different feelings so it could help us identify them on others!

inspired self portraits

We wondered why flamingos have an extra little toe on the back of their foot.  We discovered it in a picture while reading a book together.  We guessed it was to help them stand.  We learned a flamingo stands on one foot to keep warm, eat upside down, and what they eat affects what color they are.  We shared with a buddy something we learned that we put in our Wonder Journals.

It was a great week!
