Grade Level Expectations
After finally completing all of the student's reading benchmarks, I have put letters in your child's Friday folder if your child is not meeting grade level expectations in reading. There are ideas in the letter to help your child at home. If your child does not have a letter in the Friday folder, you have either already been notified by me or your child does meet grade level expectations.

Care Packages for Soldiers
We have several deployed soldiers to send care packages to in November. We are looking forward to creating the care packages at our Harvest Party in October. There are still a few items to sign up for on the google doc Deployed Soldiers Care Packages. Please take a look if you haven't yet!

Second Step
In our social curriculum, Second Step, we practiced using SELF TALK as way to focus our learning skills. We played a game where I SAID to do something but SHOWED them something else. They also had to wait until I told them to do it. The practice was to use SELF TALK and repeat the direction to themselves until it was time to do it. It was VERY HARD for many of the students to focus their full attention. In the Friday folder is the lesson review and an activity you can do with your child to practice self talk. Take a look!

Reading Log
Your child brought home a book to practice fluency in the front sleeve of their red folders this past week. Please practice this book several times so by the end of the week, they are reading it like they talk. I will collect the books at the end of the week and send home another on Monday. Please take good care of these books as I use them every year with the classes. Feel free to write notes to me to tell me how your child is doing if you'd like.

We cut an apple in half and shared the half with a friend. We kept the seeds and counted how many were in each apple.

Then we made a class graph about it.

We are interviewing school helpers! We practiced with a friend what we will say.

We read a book about a flamingo and learned a lot of it's body parts. We had to make up an imaginary animal that had the same body parts.

Kickball in PE

We also do some writing in our Reading Notebooks during Guided Reading.

We read a book called One of Each. We then played a drawing game where we had to draw one and our partner had to copy it to make two. Then we switched places.
