News and Notes:

Reading Logs
I have finished benchmarks and will be sending a book home with your child on Monday in the front sleeve of the Red Daily folder.  I will write on the log the name of the book.  You can then initial that your child read it and note how they did if you would like.  The purpose of these books is to build fluency so it should be a book they can read fairly easily.  I will collect the logs and books on Friday and send a new one home the following Monday.  Please have your child read the book several times and practice reading it fluently.

High Frequency Words
In your child's Friday folder, there is a sight word list.  I assessed your child on the first quarter words.  If they knew it, there is a check mark after the word.  Please note the words your child needs to practice.  I will re-assess at the end of the quarter.

Chasing and Tagging in PE

Making words with the -et pattern!

Adding more to our stories!

Working with geoboards and geobands

We learned about September 11, 2001.
We read a children's book that was written by first graders the day after it happened.  We also learned about a school nearby that could't go to their school building for a few months.  We drew what we learned and how it made us feel.

We learned about Abraham and his life and made a book about it!  God always keeps his promises!

We practiced writing a telling sentence with a capital letter at the beginning and a period at the end.  We wrote a telling sentence about ourselves!

We practiced acting "some, some more stories" and "some, some went away" stories.

We had SO MANY wonders about hermit crabs.  We found all the answers in books from the library and then we picked one things we learned to add to our Wonder Journals.

We added books that we picked out to our Book boxes.

Then we read them using our whisper phones.

Practicing our Spelling sentence!

After we wrote a telling sentence about ourselves, we highlighted the uppercase beginning letter and the period at the end.

Then we wrote our sentence on a page and made a class book that tells about us!

Andy Warhol inspired POP art!

We are learning about how we are alike and different from each other.  We had to find friends in the class who enjoyed certain things.

We LOVE reading!!

After we read all about the Hippo, we drew our own hippo and labeled his body parts!

Literacy Stations

We practiced putting the sounds in order
for words.

We created a page all about us and then took turns telling a partner about it while they listened and  then we switched roles.  Then we had to tell the class what we learned about our partner.

Another fAnTaStIc week!
