It was great to get a chance to talk to you at BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.  Thank you for coming.  Please read through the blue folder as I wasn't able to go into all of the details that are included.  If you have any questions please contact me.

Spelling Test Info: We made it through our first spelling test!  The boys and girls did a pretty good job.  Just a reminder that this one was PRACTICE so it doesn't count.  However, I do want you to see how Spelling Tests are graded so that you know how to help prepare your first grader.  There are 18 points total.  Our first grade program looks for: words spelled correctly, ALL lowercase letters (we want to teach the children that almost always we read and write text in lowercase), and the sentence is in correct format...word spaces, begins with capital letter, all other letters lowercase, and ending punctuation mark.
I will mark on your child's test what the above needs to be correct, but again, this one won't count.  It will just give you a good idea of how to help your child for the next tests.  I'll send home the test on Monday in the homework folder.

Below are some REMINDERS and OPPORTUNITIES:

  • We need Room Parents!  Please let me know if you are interested.
  • Please sign the Highlights form and return ASAP.  We can get free classroom materials with every signed form, even if you mark "NO."
  • Thank you for those who volunteered to clean the room on Fridays.  I hope to have the schedule done and emailed to you by September.
  • Please fill out and return the Homework Contract by Monday.
  • Our STAR OF THE WEEK will be starting soon!  The traveling display board will take a trip to your house for an opportunity for your first grader to tell us about him/her.
*By the way, some of you have asked about donating items and here are a few things we can use if you wanted to save from home or purchase while you were out:  Post-It paper pads, 3x5 index cards, empty toilet paper tubes, clean foam veggie or meat trays, milk jug screw on caps and the plastic ring that is on when originally bought.

Here are some pictures from this past week.  Enjoy!
