News and Notes:

Scholastic
Your child has a scholastic book order packet in the Friday folder. Orders are due September 6. Please go online to order your books.  The class activation code is GVN8W.  Go to this link when ordering: https://orders.scholastic.com/GVN8W

Reading Calendar
As mentioned at our Parent Orientation, we have a Reading Calendar starting the month of September.  The calendar is in your child's Friday folder.  Please initial each day your child reads or you read to him/her.  The goal is 4 times a week.  If your child reaches the goal of 4 times each week for the whole month, he/she will pick out a free book at the end of the month.

Climbing Bobcat Mountain
We are ready to start our sight word hikes!  Your child can bring in the first hike when he/she is ready to read the words on the list!  I will send home the second hike when your child finishes the first.  Happy Reading!

Highlights Magazine
Please sign and return the form sent home last Monday!  If everyone returns the form, we get free stuff for our classroom!

Literacy Stations
We finished our first week of working independently on Literacy Stations.  Your first grader will have at least two 20 minute chances to finish a station.  Starting next week, if your child doesn't finish a station, I will send it home for your child to finish at home.

In Social Studies we talked about ways to get along!  We had to hold a crayon and draw what we want without talking!  It was so hard!
Then we tried again and this time could talk and listen to each other...our pictures turned
out WAY BETTER!

We acted out the words we made for our spelling pattern and then had to write it.

We learned about Piet Mondrian and his Victory Boogie Woogie piece!  We created our own Mondrian inspired work!

We had the chance to meet Hannah's puppy, Finnegan!  We loved him!

We took turns reading with me!  I can't wait to read with each of the students!

We practiced working with a dot cube, or dice.  Then we played a game to see which number we rolled the most!

Enjoying a healthy snack with our friends at our PVF break!

We practiced listening and talking with each other. After we did that, we shared something we learned about our buddy!

It was a great week together!
