News and Notes:

Substitute Teacher
On Wednesday, Mrs. Gregory will be teaching the class and I will be taking turns meeting with each first grader to read with me.  I will do benchmark assessments so that I can find a good starting point for each of the kids!

No School
There will be no school on Friday, August 30th for a teacher's conference with area Lutheran schools.  There will also be no school on Monday, September 2, for Labor Day.

Spelling Test
We took our first spelling test today and it was a practice one.  I will send it home on Monday in your child's red folder so you can see how it is graded.  I usually won't send it home the following Monday, it will be in your child's Friday folder the following week.  However, I will send it home Monday for the first few weeks.  Please be sure to practice with your child writing all words with lower case letters except for the first letter in the sentence or special names once in a while.

CAR
If your child has CAR written at the top of any papers, please help your child fix the mistake and send it back in so I can recheck it.

PVF Break
The boys and girls have really enjoyed having a snack during the school day!  Just a reminder that it needs to be a Protein, Vegetable, or Fruit.  Please no bars (Kind, Larabar, granola, etc.) they often have extra sugar.  Also, no peanuts or peanut butter!

Developmental Scale
There may be some assessments that have letters from our developmental scale on them:
P proficient- consistently at grade level
NP near proficient - initial signs of understanding but not consistently at grade level
N not proficient - consistently not at grade level
