Familiar/Fluency Books
Your child made it through the first week with the leveled books that were sent home.  I hope your child had a chance to read it a few times.  I noticed that not all parents initialed the Reading Log.  Please initial after your first grader has read.  If your child forgot to return the book, please send it on Monday.  I will send home a new book on Monday, too.

Service Projects/Class Parties
We will do service projects for our class parties this year.  Please go to the google doc to sign up to help plan or assist in any way needed.  Our awesome room parents can always use some help!

Kicking in PE

Building fun!

...and play dough fun!

We cut apples in half and ate them
to find all the seeds.

We practiced listening and talking to each other.

Then we shared with the class what we learned about each other.

Practicing our Word Wall words!

New coats are fun to wear at recess!

Practicing our spelling sentence!

We practiced listening to the middle sounds in words.  Then we sorted them!

We are learning how to form our letters using a "c!"  We use a "c" to form a lot of our letters!

Uppercase letters are
giraffe letters - VERY TALL!

The next day, we put our seeds from our half back together with our other apple half to see how many seeds each of our apples had!

We had 6 seeds in an apple the most!

Wondering in our Wonder Journals...

We looked at Paul Klee's Kleetown piece.
Then we used the same shapes to create our own.  We named them, too!

We practiced counting to 23 using a Wrap Up!

We started using a Station Monitor (SM) during our Literacy Station time.  The SM would walk around reminding us to stay on task and work quietly.  When time is up, he/she chooses someone who was doing a good job to monitor next!

More Word Wall word practice
playing Hang Man.

We are practicing Telling Sentences and adding a period.  We looked at pictures from this year and wrote a telling sentence about them and made sure we had a period!

We keep working on our Small Moment stories!

Our Hermit Crabs are having fun adventures when they visit students at home!

We talked about how important it is to have school rules.  We read:
and discussed rules that are important to remember at school.  We made posters for our school to remind other students to Be Safe, Responsible, and Respectful!

We found a praying mantis at recess!

We had our first Guided Writing groups!

We wrote about things we like and do in the summer.
Another  G R E A T   W E E K !
