News and Notes:

No School:
Next week there is no school on Friday, Oct. 18th due to parent conferences.  Parent conferences are Thursday after school/evening and Friday. There will also be no school on October 23, 24, and 25th as the teachers will be attending the National Lutheran Teacher's Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Substitute on Tuesday:
Our class will have a substitute teacher on Tuesday, October 15th from 11:30 until 3pm.  Mrs. Bernhardt and I are presenting our Balanced Literacy Program to over 100 teachers at our upcoming conference and need to prepare our presentation.  Mrs. Joy Schenck will be subbing that afternoon.  She teaches in our Sonshine Center and substitutes regularly for Zion teachers.

Parent Help Needed:
We will be having a fun Apple Day on Monday, October 21st.  I will need 4 parents or grandparents to come in and help run various stations from about 9-11.  If you can help, please email me ASAP.

Field Trip/Harvest Party:

Our class Harvest Party is Tuesday, October 22nd.  Part of our celebration will include a service project of raking leaves for our neighbors.  A field trip permission form is in your child's Friday folder.  Please sign and return the form by Tuesday, October 15th.  We are in need of child-size rakes.  If you have one, or know someone who does, we would love to borrow it and will return it after our service project.  Please label it clearly.

Spelling Test:

On the Spelling test, you will notice PATTERN WORDS at the bottom.  These are 2 of the words the class found that have the week's pattern.  As noted on the Spelling List, these words will be just for practice until week 13. You can help your child study for these words by asking you child to build other words that have the weekly chunk.  Help them build chunks, for example; if the chunk is -ob then think of words like: glob, blob, etc.

Memory Work:

Your child will get a new memory work sheet in their homework folder on Monday.  I apologize for forgetting to put it in there today.  :o)
