Thanksgiving Service
You are invited to join Zion for one of their Thanksgiving services: Wednesday, November 27 at 7pm or Thursday, November 28 at 9am.
Short Week
We will have early dismissal on Wednesday, and no school on Thursday or Friday in celebration of Thanksgiving. Enjoy your time with your family! God has given you such an amazing gift.
Advent Speaking Part
Your child's Advent Speaking part is in the red folder. It is highlighted with your child's number. This will need to be learned at home. Please practice with your child saying it S-L-O-W and LOUD. We will start practicing our speaking parts when we return from Thanksgiving.
First and Second grade will lead the Advent Service on December 18th at 10:00am (Chapel) and 7:00pm (Zion church congregation). Please mark your calendar. The boys and girls always do such a great job sharing the story of Jesus' birth!

READ TO YOUR CHILD
Who knew so much learning could happen from a 4-minute story? Forget the fancy apps that “teach” phonics or sight words while ignoring the fact that children learn to read within the context of family and language learning.
Read to your child!
- Picture books until they are too old to sit in your lap. And then continue picture books while they sit beside you.
- Start the chapter books as soon as they can listen for the length of the chapter and don’t stop when they learn to read.
- Read 20-30 minutes a day. Every. Day
- Mute your phone and put it in a different room. (Then your child will know that this is important)
- Start reading Bible stories as soon as possible and later discuss those stories after your child reads them to you.

We learned all about how the Pilgrims traveled on the Mayflower and how they lived once they landed at Plimoth.

We learned about how the Native Americans decorated buffalo hide with their own art. We created a version of that, too!
First, we crumpled up the paper bag so it looked soft and worn, more like hide.
Then, we looked at Native American writing and added their pictures to our hide.
We painted the pictures with the colors they used to look more authentic.

Making a comic strip in our Reading Notebook during Guided Reading.
We measured the capacity of various containers and then put them in order of how many cups of water they would hold. We estimated wrong every time, but we got closer!

After our paint dried on our Native American Buffalo Hide, we outlined the writing in black and added a border.
We had a great week together!
