We didn't know what a veteran was.
Here is a list of our guesses.

We watched a video and learned what a veteran is.    A veteran is a person who used to serve in the military.  We came up with questions to ask the veteran who came to visit us.

Sergeant Tyler came in to talk to us about when he was deployed back in 2003 to Kuwait and Baghdad.

He showed us on a map where he was.

He showed us the money they used with Saddam Hussein's picture on it.  We learned he wasn't a nice man to the people of his country.  Our soldiers went over there to help keep people safe.

He showed us lots of pictures of
what it was like there.

...and the maps they used.

He also showed us his special hat.  That hat means that he jumps out of airplanes.

He showed us the food the soldiers ate called an MRE.  He opened it for us to show what was inside.  It didn't look very yummy.

We melted our Chihuly art!

We played a game where we had to match pictures with the same beginning sound.

For our Harvest party, we made care packages to send to deployed soldiers.  Two recruiting soldiers came in to tell us how the items we bought for the care packages will help the deployed soldiers.

We decorated the boxes.

We wrote the soldiers letters.

We colored them pictures.

We also worked on our Auction item!

We made them patriotic pictures, too!

We took home soldiers to have around our homes to remind us to pray for the deployed soldiers who work so hard to keep us safe.

Arian counted 108 soldiers!

Then we enjoyed a yummy snack!

And we packed up all the care packages!
They were so full!

It was all so exciting!

The soldiers gave us water bottles
and stickers as a gift!
It was a great Harvest Party!

The next day was Apple Day!
We cut up apples to make applesauce.

We taste tested 3 different kinds of apples and came up with words to describe them!

We went on an apple hunt for apple
words around the room!

We read apple books!

We weighed and measured our apples!

We measured how many apples tall we were!

We saw the Creation Museum!
We learned a lot about dinosaurs!

We read a book about Johnny Appleseed's life and wrote down something we learned about him.

We also ate our applesauce!
It was yummy!

The next day, we went to the Botanical Gardens!
We took the bus there.  :-)

We took a class on seeds. We read a book about seeds, and explored all about seeds!

We planted seeds too!

Then we went outside on a seed hunt.

We saw lots of Chihuly art!

Then we went on our own tour of the garden!

Can you see the Chihuly art in the background?

It was such a fun week!
