News and Notes:
Familiar Reading/Leveled Reading Books
On Monday, your first grader will bring home a book that is at his/her level that should be read with minimal help. Please have your child read these books several times to help build fluency and self confidence. Please initial the Reading Log that is with the book. Feel free to make any comments on your chid's progress. I have included an information sheet that tells you what you can do at home with these books and what the focus is. All of these items will be in the back, clear sleeve of your child's red folder. I will collect the books at the end of the week and have another one ready the following Monday. This will continue throughout the entire school year. You can also count this reading on your Reading Calendar that is sent home at the beginning of each month where the goal is to read 4 x's each week.
No School
There is no school on Friday, September 23rd. The teachers have a conference at the St. Louis Science Center all day.
Chapel Offering
I will begin to send home a Chapel envelope each Tuesday (I hope). This will hopefully help your first grader to remember that we will have Chapel the following day as we continue to work towards our goal of buying children's Bibles for the kids in Belize.

Practicing Kicking in PE
We each came up with a sentence about ourselves. After they were cut apart, we had to put them back in order to make sense.
After we put them back in order, we wrote the sentence down
and illustrated it, too.
We made it into a class book called: Who's in 1T?
Working with Geoboards and Geobands
We learned all about the journey Abraham took in Jesus Time.
We made a class book about it by each
illustrating a part of his journey.
We looked up words in our classroom Alphabet books and first, built the word and then, wrote it down.
We came up with A LOT of words!
Learning about Plants in Science
We put together -et puzzles and came up with MANY words!
We also read a book with many -et words in it!
We highlighted the ones we found.
Andy Warhol inspired art:
We changed pictures of ourselves!
As we talked more about Abraham, we learned that he had a son just as God promised him. God told them to name him Isaac. Isaac means "he laughs" because Sarah laughed when she heard she would have a son at such an old age. We have a name that God gives us too: Christian. We sang a song about being a Christian and created a class book that reminds us that Jesus loves each one of us and calls us by name.
We created signs to hang by the letters on our Word Wall to help remember what sounds the letters make.
We practiced adding a Capital Letter to
the beginning of sentences.
We counted pennies!
More indoor recess fun!
Kickball in PE
We LOVE reading!
