Rock for Art
Please have your first grader bring in one rock about the size of his/her fist.  We will use this rock for an upcoming artist study.  Please send to school in a labeled ziplock bag.

Practice Testing
We practiced what achievement tests will be like so that it isn't a complete surprise next week.  We practiced listening, reading on our own and filling circles.  I put the booklet we practiced with in the Friday folder.  We didn't do the whole thing, we just gained exposure.

Standardized Testing
Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep and eats a healthy breakfast.  This is the first time the students will be experiencing this type of testing.  It is important that they learn the process and get used to this type of evaluation tool, however in first grade the accuracy of the assessment maybe compromised due to the limited exposure to this type of test.  The test is another tool to help assess students achievement.  It is good to practice taking these types of tests and will give some sort of a baseline for future years.    We stress to just do your best.  We don't want your child to feel any pressure about this test.  :)

Grandparents/VIP Day
What a great Grandparents and VIP Day!  Thank you to all the grandparents and special friends who were able to join us for the day.  We hope that the special visitors enjoyed seeing our school and the wonderful students!  I'm sad I didn't get any pictures since I was so busy, but it looked like a great time was had by all.  Feel free to share this website with them so they can keep up with our classroom activities!

Zion School Auction
We would LOVE for you to attend the Zion Lutheran School Auction, to be held at Old Hickory Golf Club on April 15, 2016.  It is a great night to celebrate Zion and raise money for our school.  We would love to see many first grade parents there!  We will be working on our class item that will at the auction, too!

School YearBook
Order forms to order your school yearbook were sent home last week in your child's red folder.  Please go online to order by the end of this week!

Checking our Writing for Ending Marks!

When brainstorming ways people get from one place
to another, we came up with an RV.
To learn more about an RV, Mr. Buehrle drove over
his for us to learn about.

We all had a job to do.

We had photographers...

A few students had to write their opinion of an RV...

Some of us had to find an answer to a question...

Others had to sketch the RV's details...

We learned A LOT!
Now we are working on compiling all that we learned.

We will display all of our learning over the next couple of weeks!

Our Tornado Drill

Using our Writing Checklist to see if our stories
have what we have learned.

Using Large and Small Paperclips to Measure

After we checked our writing to make sure it had the
correct ending marks, we read a story to a partner
changing our voice to match the ending marks.

Putting together words to make Compound Words

Making cards for Derek and Natalia.
They are high school students at Lutheran High
in St. Charles who are battling cancer.

Playing "How Many are Missing" with Pennies.

Another Great Week!
