Botanical Gardens Field Trip

Thursday, September 17th is our day to go to the Botanical Gardens. A permission form was sent home this week. Please return the form by Monday. On Thursday, chaperones need to be in the classroom by 8:15; you may just wait after you drop your child off if you would like. We will be taking a seed class, eating lunch, and heading over to the Children's Garden. Children should wear the RED ZION T-SHIRT and BRING A SACK LUNCH: no peanuts or peanut butter please! We plan to eat in the provided classroom after the class, then go on a short tour.

No School

There is NO SCHOOL FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 18th, as Zion is hosting the area Lutheran School Teachers for one day conference.

Leveled Reading Books

On Monday your child will bring home a book that your child should be able to read with minimal help. We will keep the Reading Log and the book in the other outside pocket of the red folder. Please have your child read these books several times and initial that it was read. I am sending home a note about why Familiar Reading is important along with tips for you as a parent. This practice helps to build fluency and self confidence. Please send the books back at the end of each week. Each week your child will receive a new book.

Reading is so important in First Grade. The best way to become a good reader is to READ, READ, READ! Thank you for helping your child become a good reader.

Shoe Boxes

I am in need of 40 adult size shoe boxes for a service project. If you are able to help please send them in to school.

Bobcat Shuffle Contest

September 8th – 16th there will be a contest to see which classroom can get the most participants in the Bobcat Shuffle. Winning class gets to have a special dress down day!
