Purple Friday Folder

Please look in your child's purple Friday Folder each week.  Please mark the church and Sunday school attendance and initial so that we know you have looked at the Friday Folder.  There is a very important note about the SCRIP-TOGETHER WE ARE BETTER, which is a very easy way to make money for our school.  Please read it carefully and buy your gift cards from Zion.

Spelling

Spelling words were sent home in the purple Friday folder.  We will have a practice test on Friday over Lesson 1: 

-at chunk words:  hat, cat, mat, rat, sat, fat, bat, pat
Sight Words: the, and
Spelling Dictation Sentence: The cat is fat.

Parent Back To School Night

Parent Back to School Night is Tuesday, August 20th at 6:30pm.  It is very important that at least one parent attend the Back to School Night.  We would like for you to attend the first AND second sessions in our first grade room - this will equal one long session and will tell you all about BALANCED LITERACY.  In the past we have had a separate night to go over Balanced Literacy information, but we would like to try to do it all on BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT.  (Meeting in our classroom from 6:30-7:20)  If you have other children, you can attend the last session at 7:30.  This is for parents only; no children please.

Water Bottle
Your child may bring a water bottle to school to drink during the day.  Please send a bottle that has a sippy type lid that pops up to keep spills to a minimum.

PE

Monday we have PE so please have your child's clean gym shoes in his/her backpack.  The gym shoes need to be shoes that will not be worn outside and only worn inside at gym.  If you are reusing an old pair of shoes please scrub the bottom to make sure the shoes are clean and free from pebbles, bark, or dirt.  Thank You!

Homework Folder

Thank you for helping your child remember to return his/her Homework folder each day.  There will be daily math homework (except for Friday) so please help your child get into the routine of completing homework each night and returning it the next day.

We voted and named our Hermit Crabs!

First, we came up with names.

Then, we each picked one name and wrote it down.

Folded our paper in half...

And put our hand in the air when we were ready.

Our Assistant of the Day came and collected them.

We had a tie.  So we had to vote again!

And finally we had our three names!
