We Voted!

Special Edition: The Voting Process

With the presidential election tomorrow, we talked about what the voting process was like for all of our moms and dads who are going out to vote for our new president tomorrow.

First we talked about what candidates were - people who try to be elected.
Here are the candidates for this year's election:


        President  Obama                               Romney

Next we read this story to learn about the whole voting process:

In the story, we found out these things: 

- People who are age 18 or older can vote.
- People have to register to vote.
- Your vote is a secret.
- Voting is a BIG responsibility.
- You should read the newspaper, listen to the candidates speak, and watch the news and then decide for yourself who you want to vote for.
- You get an "I Voted" sticker after you vote.
- You have to wait for the results of everyone's vote.

So first we registered.  We each filled out our own registration card like this:

Then we voted using a secret ballot.  We had the presidential candidates on there, but we also had a fun question too.

We each voted in secret.  We got out our "offices" so that no one would see our vote.

When we were done, we folded our secret ballot.

Then we held it in the air so that it could go into the ballot box.

Then we each got an "I VOTED" sticker to show that we had voted.

Then we found out our results:

It was REALLY close!  Then we talked about how some people feel disappointed because who or what they voted for didn't win; and some people feel happy because who or what they voted for did win.  

Probably the most important part of voting is to be respectful.  We talked about how it's not okay to make someone else feel bad because they voted for someone or something different than you.

Voting was really fun, but it's also really important!  We can't wait to see how it goes tomorrow, on Election Day!
