Scholastic Book Order
Your child has a scholastic book order packet in the Friday folder. This is a great way to build up your home library as well as earn books for our classroom. Orders are due November 7th. We Need
We are collecting plastic and styrofoam egg cartons as well as cardboard toilet paper tubes. Thank you for collecting for us!
There is no school Tuesday, November 6th due to our church being a polling place.
Muffins for Moms
Please join us on Wednesday, November 7th from 7-7:45am for donuts and muffins. Moms and children are invited to the church basement and eat together as a family. Moms are invited to stay for Chapel at 8:15am.
World Sport Stacking Day
Our Zion students will once again take part in World Sport Stacking Day and help set a Guinness World Record for “The most people sport stacking in multiple locations on one day”. On Thursday, Nov. 8 people all over the world will participate in this event. Zion will contribute about 250 sport stackers of the 623,000 participants needed to break the previous record set in 2016. Volunteers are needed throughout the day. Please contact Melinda Steinbacher at: msteinbacher@zionharvester.org if you have time to help out. First grade will participate at 12:05-12:40pm.
Veteran's Day
There is a Veteran's Day service conducted by our Junior High on Friday, November 9 at 8:15am. We are excited to extend the invitation to anyone to join us. The Boy Scouts will conduct a flag ceremony, a following the service, all veterans are invited to stay for a group photo and accept our appreciation for their service. If you know a veteran, please extend an invitation for them to join us.
Thanksgiving Food Drive
Wednesday, November 14th is our school Thanksgiving Food Drive. In the month of November we support the Seminarian Food Bank. Seminarians are men studying to be pastors. We provide 20 Thanksgiving meals to Seminarian Families unable to go home for Thanksgiving.
The Student Council has assigned a food item to each grade.
First grade should bring: Stuffing & Boxed Potatoes (mashed, sweet, slices, etc.)
Thank you for helping to provide Thanksgiving dinners to 20 seminarians. Our offerings for the month of November will go to buy the turkeys. What a great way to help support those who spread the Good News. You may sent food in anytime between now and November 14.
Sport Stacking Equipment for sale
Our First through Sixth grade students have been working on their Sport Stacking skills during their PE classes. Sport Stacking (also known as Speed Stacking or Cup Stacking) is a sport in which specially designed cups are stacked in specific patterns as quickly as possible. It has been called a “track meet for your hands” and not only improves eye-hand coordination, but also academic learning. “Students that sport stack on a regular basis have shown increases in test scores and levels of concentration. When students sport stack they are crossing the "midline" of their bodies and developing new connections in their brains. These new connections help to spur brain growth which in turn promotes greater academic achievement.” Not only that---SPORT STACKING is FUN! New Adding 1 Facts!
We have been working on standing and walking with our hands to our side and following the person ahead of us while looking straight ahead. This line was too great to pass up for a picture!
For our final plant project, we each drew a plant part out of a bag and then had to draw it.
We also read a book about how pumpkins grow.
We read that same book to our preschool buddy class and let them keep the book!
We read fall books together...
...and colored our pumpkin books with our buddy.
Then we made pumpkin pancakes with our preschool buddies.
We mixed up the pumpkin pancakes ingredients, cooked them and ate them!
In Writing Workshop,
We practiced telling our stories we will write about across our fingers first.
Then we sketched and added words!
We graphed how many pattern blocks we each grabbed and compared our graphs to other's.
After each made our plant part, we put them together in groups to create one complete plant with all the parts!
In Faith Families this week, we made cards for veterans in remembering Veteran's Day.

We learned how Vincent Van Gogh would often draw or paint plants in his still life art. We were inspired and drew still life plants onto foam board to make a print.

After we put our plants together and added a label, we presented to each other how our plant part was important to how a plant lives, grows and grows new plants.
