News and Notes:
Scholastic Book Order
Your child has a scholastic book order packet in the Friday folder. This is a great way to build up your home library as well as earn books for our classroom. Orders are due September 7th. Please go online to order your books. The class activation code is GVN8W. Go to this link when ordering: https://orders.scholastic.com/GVN8W
CAR
Your child may have papers in their Friday folder that have CAR written on top. This stands for Correct And Return. Please help your child correct any mistakes made and return to school.
Speech-Language Screenings
Please check out the speech language screening form in your chid's Friday folder.
If you would like to have your child tested in speech and language, please fill out the form and return with payment as soon as possible. If your child already receives services, you do not need to retest. If you have any wonders about your child's speech or language, it doesn't hurt to just be assessed!
Second Step
We have been practicing skills for learning and how to focus in our second step program. There is a Home Link in the Friday folder. This is a great way for you to see what your child is learning in our social skills program and enjoy the optional activity.
Reading Calendar
There is a reading calendar for the month of September in your child's Friday folder. You may keep track of any reading your child does. He/she can read or you can read to them. The goal is 4 times a week and your child can pick out a book to keep or receive a personal pizza coupon. Please return at the end of the month.
Literacy Stations
Your first grader worked all by him/herself on literacy stations this week! If your child's stations are not completed by the end of the week, we will send home the center to finish at home and return the following Monday. We will start this next week. We had a pretty good first week working independently!
Faith Families
Wednesday was our first week sitting in Chapel with our Faith Family. This is a group of students from all grades 1-8 and a teacher. We build relationships through chapel, activities, service, and prayer. This week we had our first faith family activity. Our devotion was about being God’s postage stamp. We each must GO and deliver the Good News of Jesus. We spent time writing what we could say to tell others about Jesus on paper. These papers will be used in a piece of art that will remind us to GO and TELL. We used toilet paper to help get to know each other and then returned to chapel to celebrate Baptismal Remembrance for July, August, and September.
