Valentines Party
We will celebrate Valentine’s Day on Thursday.  Please send a lunch to school that day since we will not be eating at our scheduled time and can't use the lunch room.
Our field trip to Chestnut Glen is at 11am.  We will sing some songs and pass out valentines to the residents.  Please return the permission form by MONDAY.  We will return to school, eat lunch and continue our celebration from 1:45-2:45.  At that time, we will pass out our valentines and eat a snack.

No School
We will have no school Friday, February 14 and no school Monday February 18 to honor President’s Day.

Six Flags Reading
Six Flags 600 minutes of reading is due on February 24th.

Spelling Test
You may have noticed that we have been reviewing the sight words from past weeks on the back of the spelling test.  These are review and practice right now and are not being graded. In the fourth quarter these words will be graded as part of the spelling test.

Milestones MInistry
I hope you read the email about the new MILESTONES MINISTRY.
Here is the important milestone for first graders.  This is for you and your child even if they have already turned 7.

The focus of this class is for 6 year olds and their parents to better understand worship and how to enhance the family worship experience; there will be a focus on The Lord’s Prayer. This is a 1 week class.   The milestone concludes with the 6 year olds and their parents presented a worship kit during the following week’s worship service.  Children will also lead Lord’s Prayer during that weekend’s worship service.  Parents will need to RSVP to attend this class.

•   Spring class:  March 2nd at 9:30 a.m., meeting in Zion’s School library
•   Presentation in church on March 9th at 8 a.m.
 OR
•    Fall class:  November 2nd at 9:30 a.m., meeting in Zion’s School library
•    Presentation in church on November 8th at 5 p.m. service
Cold Temperatures
We want to assure you that we will always keep your child's safety as a top priority.  Mr. Debrick keeps an eye on the temperature.  If the "real feel" or "wind chill" is below zero, we will NOT be going out.  Otherwise, studies show how getting out in appropriate cold temps do not cause sickness.  Sickness is caused by a virus.  It is so good for the children to get out for just a short time.  The children get so tired of being inside and it really  helps if they can run around for a few minutes.  Please dress your child appropriately.  Hats, mittens, scarves and warm coats are encouraged!  We don't really have care for students who are sent to school with a note saying they can't go out since I go out with the students as well.  Thank you for trusting us to make a safe decision regarding your child!  We want them safe too!
