We Sing
We sing on Sunday, October 14th at the 8am service. Please have your child in the upstairs music room at 7:45 to warm up. The class will come down for the children's message and then return to parents for the rest of the service. We are excited to share the love of Jesus using our voices!
Pizza Party:
A reminder our class won a pizza party for being the top selling class as the Fall Fundraiser prize! We will be eating our pizza on Tuesday, October 16th. Two slices of cheese pizza and drinks will be provided. You may want to send along a healthy addition such as some fruit or a vegetable to supplement the lunch that day.
Scholastic Book Order:
Please order online. Orders due by Monday, October 15th. The class activation code is GVN8W. Go to this link when ordering:
Please be sure to read ALL of the books in the orange Book Bags each week. You can read the books or your child can, but it must be something that is done together. You can also log the time spent reading on the Reading Calendar in your child's folder. Please return the bags no later than Mondays. The leveled reading books that come home each week (with the green stamp) need to be read by your first grader several times that week. This will build fluency and confidence. Please initial the Reading Log once per week/book. That tells me your child has read it several times. You do not need to write anything else on the log except your initials and a comment. This time spent reading can also be logged on the Reading Calendar. Don't forget to return the books on Fridays.
Our Balanced Literacy program is a partnership between home and school. Hearing books and reading books are both important parts of the program. Please continue to read with your first grader 4x's a week for at least 10 minutes. Thank you for your continued support in modeling the importance of reading at home!
Still Collecting:
I am still collecting items that you most likely get rid of!
-empty toilet paper tubes
-clean, styrafoam or plastic meat/veggie trays
-styrafoam egg cartons
-fabric pieces
-screw on milk lids and the ring that is around it when purchased (ring must be a circle, not broken apart)
-small (tiny) puzzle pieces - not large please (old puzzles you can't use because pieces are lost work perfectly)
